Address crossed out with Hebrew handstamp on back "Return to sender" and with Israeli postmarks on back of returned mail office dated December 2 1948. VF interesting scarce postal history cover.

Israel 1948 Interim - Government Tohuwabohu (Chaos Turbulent Government) overprints on 4 mint never hinged stamps. This rare type unauthorized overprint on Palestine stamps known to be used during April & the first 2 weeks of May 1948 Interim period. Total of 320 stamps overprinted & only 132 of these were used both on domestic and foreign mail (information taken from the 1969 Forsher Catalog page 101). Of the overprints - few different settings known, 4 in English & one in Hebrew.
